Correction

Correction (2026-09-26): The ransomware item above says two-thirds of ransomware victims are SMEs with under 500 employees, citing BlackFog's State of Ransomware 2026. We could not find that figure on the BlackFog report page when we rechecked it and no longer use it. The same holds for the other figures in that item: the 49% year-over-year rise, the 24 hours from breach to encryption, Scattered Spider moving 48% faster, and 130 Belgian victims on leak sites. None of them is on the report page now and we have not verified them, so the headline no longer states the 49% as fact. A sourced figure on the same point: in the Verizon 2025 Data Breach Investigations Report, ransomware was part of 88% of breaches at small and mid-sized businesses, against 39% at larger organisations.
